CITIZEN SECURITY BAROMETER - MALI 2023 PHASE Security and peacekeeping operations in the Sahel

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Peace and Security Competence Centre Sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with the Laboratory of Analyse of Societies and Powers – Africa / Diasporas and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) held a workshop in Bamako on 11 October 2023, at the Ecole de Maintien de la Paix Alioune Blondin BEYE, to present and discuss the report of the citizen security barometer "Citizen Security and Peacekeeping Operations in the Sahel" on the perceptions of the Malian population.

After Niger last year, the Citizens' Security Barometer focused on Mali, again using the same approach. From the survey phase to the presentation workshop, the organisations involved were able to count on the invaluable help and support of the Centre d'Analyse et de Recherche de l'Espace Sahélo-Saharien (CARESS). The focus remained on current peacekeeping operations, religious and environmental security. The aim of the workshop was to present the barometer and the analytical report of a perception study on the security governance situation in Bamako: peacekeeping operations in the face of rising violence, the dynamics of climate change and "religious security". The workshop was attended by experts, researchers, academics and members of Mali's defence and security forces. The report in question is available on our website in the publications section, and here is the link to the barometer map:
