CITIZENS' SECURITY BAROMETER - NIGER 2022 PROJECT Security and peacekeeping operations in the Sahel - A population in crisis (Niger)

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Peace and Security Competence Centre Sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with the Laboratory of Analyse of Societies and Powers – Africa / Diasporas and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) held a workshop on 19 October 2022 in Niamey to present and discuss the report of the citizen security barometer "Citizen Security and Peacekeeping Operations in the Sahel - Perceptions of the Nigerien population".

This project builds on the achievements of the previous project on Citizen Oversight of Security Public Action in Senegal, The Gambia and Guinea Bissau. This time, the scheme was extended to the three Sahelian countries of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, with a focus on the peacekeeping operations underway, as well as religious and environmental security. The objective of this workshop was to present the barometer and the analytical report of a perception study on the security governance situation in Niamey: peacekeeping operations in the face of rising violence, the dynamics of climate change and "religious security". The workshop was attended by experts, researchers, academics, and members of Niger's defence and security forces. The report in question is available on our website, in the publication section and here is the link to the mapping of the barometer: https://www.citizen-security.org.
