Security Challenges of Election Management: Towards Nigeria 2010 Elections

As Nigeria’s electoral commission (INEC) prepares for the upcoming elections, this meeting jointly organized by INEC and FES allowed to identify critical security challenges during election periods and suggested strategies to minimize security impediments in order to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

As Nigeria’s electoral commission (INEC) prepares for the upcoming elections, this meeting jointly organized by INEC and FES allowed to identify critical security challenges during election periods and suggested strategies to minimize security impediments in order to ensure free, fair and credible elections. The meeting brought together Nigerian stakeholders and representatives of security forces as well as well as experts from the region and beyond. The regional experiences enriched the discussions: Among other things, the FES/ECOWAS study on ’’The Role of Security Forces in Electoral Process – the case of Six West African countries’’ was being launched and discussed.
