Summary of ECOWAS parliament's relocation meeting in Bamako

From 21 to 25 March 2017 the relocated meeting of the Joint Committee on Political Affairs, Peace Security and APRM / Legal and Judicial Affairs of the Parliament of ECOWAS was held in Bamako. The theme was "Peace and Security: The Challenges of Countering Terrorism in West Africa; Case of Mali". It is quite natural that the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Peace and Security Centre of Competence Sub-Saharan Africa accompanied this activity.

The purpose of the meeting was to give members of the Committee the opportunity to better understand the extent of the phenomenon of terrorism in the region of Mali to make useful recommendations to ECOWAS Parliament for an effective fight against, with the tools adequate. Members of the Joint Committee, Members of the Defense, Security and Civil Protection Commission of the National Assembly of Mali, representatives of the ECOWAS Commission in charge of the Counter-Terrorism and many other actors have taken part. They have been able to study the question of terrorism from every angle in the desire to arrive at solutions with regional, local, and international dimensions all complementary in their design and their implementation to eradicate forever this scourge.
