Stakeholder Consultation on SALW Production in Ghana

In cooperation with the Ghana National Commission on Small Arms (GNACSA), FES commissioned a study taking stock of existing laws with regards to SALW control in Ghana as a basis for the development of a holistic national legislation consistent with the ECOWAS Convention.

In cooperation with the Ghana National Commission on Small Arms (GNACSA), FES commissioned a study taking stock of existing laws with regards to SALW control in Ghana as a basis for the development of a holistic national legislation consistent with the ECOWAS Convention. During the meeting, representatives of relevant Ministries, Members of Parliament, police service, armed forces, National Commission on Small Arms, civil society and local blacksmiths debated on illicit production and proliferation of SALW in Ghana, a national legal framework, implications of the ECOWAS Convention and approaches to provide alternative livelihoods for local manufacturers.
