Validation of the Chad Study
The Centre for Studies and Training for Development (CEFOD) hosted the national workshop for the validation of the study on security issues and challenges in Chad, in N'Djamena on August 30. Professor Hassan Ahmat Mahamat chaired the meeting, which was attended by researchers, civil society stakeholders and others.
During the debates, high-risk subjects were mentioned that it would be interesting to address in the paper, such as youth unemployment and castes. 3 million jobs need to be created by 2030, whereas the current response is to create 200,000. The risk of unemployed youth joining the ranks of “Boko Haram” is high. Caste issues exist throughout the Sahel strip. According to the workshop participants, there is a feeling in Chad that justice is denied where the castes are concerned. The Haddad, who belong to the blacksmiths’ caste, are ostracized and discriminated against, even when they reach certain positions.
