WANSED and FES sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and the West African Network for Security and Democratic Governance (WANSED) share common objectives in promoting peace, security and democratic governance in West Africa. Since 2004, both organisations have implemented numerous joint projects. In the spirit of closest co-operation, the FES Regional Office in Abuja has served as interim secretariat for WANSED for several years.

The following were important milestones in the long years of collaboration:

• Election of first executive committee members of WANSED in November 2004 in Ghana;
• Adoption of the WANSED statutes by members in July 2008 in Nigeria;
• Registration of WANSED as an institution in December 2011 in Nigeria.

Committed to a continuous enhancement in their collaboration, the Coordinators, Mr Felix Henkel (left) of FES West Africa and Prof Massaer Diallo of WANSED (right), signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on 22 October 2012. The agreement entered into force for an unlimited period of time.

Following the ceremony, all documents safeguarded by FES were handed over to the Executive Committee of WANSED. Furthermore, an action plan for joint activities in 2013 was adopted.
