Closing conference of the FES-EU "security for all" project in Mali

At the end of the regional project "Security for all" co-financed by the European Union in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Bamako hosted this Thursday, February 24, 2022, a closing conference that aimed to share the products / results of the project with the various socio-political actors of Mali but also with international partners.

"For a social anchoring of security sector reform"

From 2019 to 2022, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung with co-financing from the European Union carried out a joint project implemented in Mali, Nigeria, Cameroon, and the wider ECOWAS region with the aim of increasing the involvement of civil society in security sector reform processes.

Despite the challenges encountered, the implementation rate of the project in Mali is 100% with deliverables/products that will be poured into the debate on the Governance of the Security Sector for a better consideration and involvement of civil society in the process.

Through the brief presentations of the project, and these activities at the national level by Mr. Christian Klatt, Resident Representative of the FES in Mali and at the sub-regional level (Senegal, Cameroon, and Nigeria) by Mr. Mouhamadou Moustapha Ba, Program Officer at the Peace and Security Office of the Center of Competence in Sub-Saharan Africa in Dakar, objectives and expected results were shared with participants.

A discussion panel composed of the partners and the co-applicant (UNTM, CCSC-PURN and CERM) involved in the project the conference made it possible to share the products of the project with Malian socio-political actors on the involvement of civil society in the SSR/G process with a view to a more inclusive, responsible, just, and needs-based reform.

The conference recorded the presence of the Delegation of the European Union in Mali and marks the end of the project in Mali.
