Conference on Accountability in Africa

On August 10th 2021, the Peace and Security Centre of Competence Sub Saharan Africa of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the African Network Against Extrajudicial Killings and Disappearances (ANEKED) in partnership with the Institute of Human Rights and Peace - Cheikh Anta Diop University Dakar organised a conference on "Accountability in Africa"

After a keynote address by Professor Sidy Alpha NDIAYE, Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Institute of Human Rights and Peace - Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar (IDHP), the following topics were developed in the form of panels:

  • The role of youth in empowerment in Africa by Mr. Musa DIBBA, University of The Gambia Students' Union
  • The value of universal jurisdiction as an accountability mechanism in Africa by Mr. Malick Lazare DIAKHATE, Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar
  • What mechanisms to strengthen the political and criminal accountability of governments in Africa? Mr Abdourahmane MBODJ DIOP, Cheikh Anta Diop University Dakar
  • Civil society as a driver of accountability in Africa. Ms. Mariama DANSO, Vice President, University of the Gambia Students' Union
