Du 29 au 30 novembre 2023, le bureau Paix et Sécurité Centre de Compétence Afrique Subsaharienne a organisé un atelier régional de réflexion sur le thème : « Crises en Afrique de l'Ouest : défis et opportunités pour un nouveau modèle démocratique et de coopération régionale » L’atelier a réuni une quinzaine de participants universitaires, chercheurs, acteurs de la société civile et experts, spécialistes des questions de démocratie, de gouvernance, des constitutionnalistes et spécialistes des questions électorales, institutionnelles et sécuritaires du Mali, du Burkina, du Niger, du Sénégal, du Bénin, de la Guinée et de la Côte d'Ivoire.
L’atelier a été un creuset de réflexions de haut niveau entre acteurs venant d’horizons différents autour de la problématique de la démocratie, de l’Etat de droit et de l’intégration régionale en Afrique de l’Ouest.
Les discussions ont permis de jeter des regards croisés sur les expériences en cours, les crises multiformes qui secouent la sous-région et sur les défis à relever pour stabiliser celle-ci et sortir des fragilités en vue de construire dans la durée des modèles démocratiques conformes aux besoins des populations, de leur histoire et des enjeux géopolitiques de l’heure et de l’intégration régionale.
La mise en œuvre des recommandations de l’atelier pourrait y contribuer de même que la prise en compte des leçons apprises au cours des deux dernières décennies en matière de consolidation de la démocratie et de la gouvernance en Afrique de l’Ouest.
